Description

In the Mediaeval period this square was used for selling grain, although it has served many other purposes throughout its history, such as a ceramics market and even a silver market, hence in the 16th century it was known as Plaza de las Platerías (Silver Square) due to the large number of silversmiths based there. On one side, the 18th century Temes House is covered in neo-Baroque decoration. The "fonte nova" (new fountain) is in the centre of the square, and was named as such as it replaced a 17th century fountain.
It is an excellent location from which we can admire the south facade of the cathedral of Orense.
