Galician Woodlands
Some of the most magical places in Galicia are in the woods. And Galicia has several magical woods, like the Fraga de Catasós or O Xurés.

Biosphere Reserves in Galicia
In Galicia, we have five areas that has been acknowledged by UNESCO as part of the “Man and Biosphere” (MAB) program. This program promotes sustainable development based on the improvement of the relationship between man and the environment. The program was created by the World Network of Biosphere Reserves, and its goal is to reconcile biological and cultural diversity with economic and social development.
As mentioned, Galicia has five of these Biosphere Reserves. Have a look at all of them Biosphere Reserve section on the Turgalicia website.

Bird watching in Galicia
With its six national parks, fourteen special protected areas for birds and five wetlands (declared to be of international importance by the Ramsar Convention), Galicia is a great place for birdwatching. And then add to that more than 1300km of coastline you know you will find a wide variety of birds.

Galicia on your desktop
Galicia is known for its beautiful nature, pilgrims walking through Galicia on their way to Santiago de Compostela will know this. From the many photos in it’s archive, Turgalicia has created a few wallpapers from some of the beautiful views that you will find if you travel around this region. A wallpaper (on your computer) is the image you see as your background on the desktop.
If you are tired of the one you currently have installed, why not add one of these beautiful images to your desktop?
The way you add these wallpapers to your computer is slightly different if you are on a Mac or PC, but it is easy to do.

The Cíes Islands (Las Islas Cíes)
The Cíes Islands is a national park located off the coast not far from the town of Vigo in Galicia. Its remote location, a 40 minute boat ride from both Vigo or Baiona, has made the island a paradise in the summer time. Fantastic beaches and generally nice weather in the summer.
In the summer time there are several boats that leave each day. This makes it easy to visit the island, on a day trip, from for example the town of Santiago de Compostela. The train station in Vigo is just a short walk from the port where the boats leave for the Cíes Islands.
To check train timetables, have a look at www.renfe.es and have a look at this webpage from the local tourist office for updated time schedules for the boats.
